W S Moreland & Co Ltd was formed in Merry Street, Motherwell in 1964 by Mr WS Moreland, who had previously worked in the town as an insurance company agent for some years. The business grew through reputation and transacted a wide range of business and personal insurance products for the communities of Motherwell, Wishaw and surrounding areas.
From 1968, Willie's right hand man was Arthur Connor, who became synonymous with all aspects of Morelands business for over 40 years, until his well-earned retirement in 2009.
In 1995, Mr Moreland opted to retire and the business was sold to Warwick England and Kevin Moore, who further expanded the business horizons and began the transformation into a company which is focussed on serving the independent business communities of West/Central Scotland and beyond.
In the decade following this ownership change, a number of smaller agents and brokers were acquired or recruited, including JL Kerr Glasgow, JR Russell & Co in Wishaw, James Sloan of Tannochside (Uddingston), (part of) Logie & McArthur in East Kilbride and Jim Simpson from the JW Group in Edinburgh.
Following Warwick's untimely death in 2005, Moreland Insurance entered its third phase of ownership, with the three current shareholders and directors being Kevin Moore, Alan Johnston and Maurice Logie.
In 2009, Moreland Insurance Brokers acquired the former offices of General Accident and Norwich Union in Cadzow Street, Hamilton.
